OREM, Utah – A prominent legal analyst has called for additional charges to be filed following the recent arrest of Tyler Robinson, who stands accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA and a notable conservative figure. Robinson was taken into custody on Friday.
Phil Holloway, the legal analyst, took to social media to express his concerns regarding the possibility of further accomplices. He stated, “Tyler Robinson communicated with individuals on Discord regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Someone provided him with the rifle. This indicates that others were involved. Clearly, there’s a conspiracy at play here. More arrests need to happen.”
Robinson’s arrest occurred late Thursday night in St. George, Utah, after law enforcement officials verified his connection to the crime.
During a press briefing on Friday morning, Utah’s Governor Spencer Cox elaborated on Robinson’s actions leading up to the crime. He revealed that Robinson allegedly had conversations about the details of the assassination with his roommate on the Discord messaging application. Reports indicated that he sent messages discussing how to stow and retrieve a rifle from a designated drop point.
Holloway asserted that anyone who was aware of Robinson’s intentions to commit murder could also face criminal charges. He elaborated, “If individuals were in contact with Robinson regarding the intended crime and understood the implications, they may be deemed criminally liable too.”
According to Holloway, if a co-conspirator performed any action that supported the conspiracy, whether it involved providing a firearm or simply encouraging the act, that person could be charged. This legal principle indicates that during a conspiracy, the actions of one individual can be attributed to all involved parties.
At the time of the briefing, Governor Cox reported no immediate plans for further arrests. However, Holloway urged law enforcement to delve into how Robinson procured the weapon, suggesting that this could expose additional individuals to legal consequences.
Holloway emphasized the need to closely investigate how Robinson acquired the firearm. He noted a scenario where Robinson might have obtained the weapon through a practice known as a straw purchase. This illegal activity occurs when one individual buys a gun on behalf of another.
“If a person purchases a firearm, fills out the necessary paperwork in their name, and then hands it over to someone else, that is a straw purchase. Such transactions are common violations of federal firearm laws,” he explained.
Additionally, during the briefing, Governor Cox mentioned that Robinson’s family played a crucial role in his eventual surrender. A family member reached out to a family friend who subsequently informed the Washington County Sheriff’s Office that Robinson had either confessed or implied his involvement in the tragic incident.
The 22-year-old suspect allegedly climbed onto the roof of the Losee Center, located on the campus of Utah Valley University, and shot Charlie Kirk from approximately 200 yards away. At the time, Kirk was engaged with the audience during his “America’s Comeback” tour event when the bullet struck and killed him.
Tyler Robinson had briefly attended Utah State University in 2021 but was in his third year at Dixie Technical College, pursuing an electrical apprenticeship program, as stated by the Utah Board of Higher Education. Remarkably, he had received the highest scholarship awarded by Utah State, known as the Resident Presidential Scholarship.
Family members mentioned that Robinson had become increasingly political in recent years. Governor Cox highlighted a conversation held prior to September 10, during which Robinson expressed his views about Charlie Kirk’s upcoming appearance at UVU. The discussion reportedly touched upon the reasons behind his dislike for Kirk and his viewpoints.
Authorities have engaged with Robinson’s roommate to gather more insights into the suspect’s mindset prior to the crime. The roommate reported that Robinson had jokingly referenced needing to retrieve a rifle from a drop point on Discord, along with discussions about the area where a rifle was hidden, engraving bullets, and leaving the weapon wrapped in a towel.
This ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy behind Kirk’s assassination, with legal experts underscoring the implications of potential additional charges. As this case unfolds, the focus remains on whether law enforcement will act upon these insights and pursue those who may be complicit in this high-profile murder.
