A prominent legal organization dedicated to protecting the religious freedoms of Americans hailed the Supreme Court’s recent unanimous ruling in favor of the Catholic Charities Bureau as a significant milestone for religious liberty in the nation. The decision, which was delivered by a 9-0 vote, distinctly opposes government overreach into matters of faith and religious practice.
During an interview with Fox News Digital, Tiffany Dunkin, a legal fellow and attorney with the First Liberty Institute, expressed her views on the ruling. She characterized the unanimous decision as a straightforward affirmation of the rights afforded by the First Amendment. The court unanimously rejected Wisconsin’s attempt to deny a religious tax exemption to the Catholic Charities Bureau, which does not exclusively serve Catholics or engage in proselytizing activities.
Wisconsin’s Argument Challenged
Dunkin elaborated on Wisconsin’s argument, explaining that the state contended the Catholic Charities did not qualify as a religious institution because it did not limit its services to members of its own faith.
