FIRST ON FOX Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, is launching a significant investigation into Planned Parenthood, alongside her DOGE subcommittee, starting this Friday.
In her efforts, Greene is addressing a letter to Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson. This correspondence questions whether the nonprofit organization is improperly combining federal funds with other resources for unapproved activities.
Under the Hyde Amendment, federal funds are strictly prohibited from being used for abortion services. Furthermore, former President Donald Trump previously took executive actions to reinforce this amendment and prevent federal financing from reaching organizations that provide gender-related healthcare to minors.
However, Greene’s letter indicates she is accusing Planned Parenthood of violating these regulations.
Greene cited that the organization receives approximately 39 percent of its annual revenue from federal resources designed for essential health services, such as cancer screenings and wellness examinations. Despite this, she asserts that Planned Parenthood is increasingly utilizing its resources to conduct abortions.
According to Greene, Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report reveals that the organization performed over 400,000 abortions in the previous year, marking a 23 percent increase over the past decade.
The letter further accuses Planned Parenthood of offering gender-affirming care with inadequate medical or psychological evaluation processes.
In reference to an annual report from Planned Parenthood, Greene pointed out that 45 affiliate health centers are involved in administering hormone therapy as part of gender-affirming care.
However, Greene expresses concerns that other gender transition services are reported under vague categories like ‘other procedures.’ This classification, Greene argues, obscures the actual quantity of transgender services provided.
According to Greene, Planned Parenthood’s policies vary from state to state. Some health centers within the organization will prescribe cross-sex hormones to minors as young as 16 years old with parental consent. Greene’s letter also alleges that the organization does not consistently follow its own parental consent policies.
In order to support her investigation, Greene is requesting Planned Parenthood’s non-public financial statements spanning from January 2020 to June 2025. She is also asking for information regarding its independent affiliate health centers, informed consent documents, and additional relevant documentation.
This timeframe notably includes the period following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022, which returned the responsibility of regulating abortion to individual states.
Republicans have historically scrutinized Planned Parenthood, accusing the organization of misusing federal funds despite longstanding restrictions against taxpayer money funding abortions.
