Florida Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk proudly celebrated his team’s recent Stanley Cup victory at the White House on Monday, where he and his teammates were received by President Donald Trump.
Tkachuk, one of six American players on the championship roster, took the opportunity to address the President directly during the celebration. His heartfelt speech resonated with both teammates and fans alike.
Gratitude on a Historic Day
“Thank you, Mr. President, for having us today. We greatly appreciate it. Being one of the few Americans who loves this country so much, it’s such an incredible day for myself. You wake up every day really grateful to be an American. So, thank you,” Tkachuk stated, expressing his pride in representing the U.S. on such a significant occasion.
His words highlighted the emotional connection he holds with his country and the joy it brings him to achieve this milestone as an American athlete.
A Special Team Bond
Following his initial remarks, Tkachuk shared insights about the camaraderie among his teammates. Last season marked the second consecutive appearance for the Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final, where they achieved a historic victory, securing the trophy for the first time in franchise history.
“This team and this group of guys is special,” Tkachuk emphasized. “Everybody sees what we do on the ice, but I’ve built bonds with these guys that I’ll have for the rest of my life. I’m forever grateful for these guys. We’re forever champs, and I’ll always remember these guys.” His comments reflect the depth of relationships forged over the course of the season, contributing to their championship success.
A Keepsake for the President
During the celebration, Tkachuk and fellow player Aleksander Barkov gifted President Trump a golden hockey stick alongside a Panthers jersey emblazoned with the name
