Michelle Obama Discusses Backlash Against School Lunch Program and Its Partisan Impact
Former First Lady Michelle Obama expressed her disbelief regarding the intense controversy surrounding her school lunch initiative during a recent podcast interview. The episode aired on the podcast “Not Gonna Lie” hosted by Kylie Kelce.
In her discussion, Obama reflected on her intentions behind the initiative, stating, “I was trying to be strategic about aligning my agenda with something that was important to the West Wing. I thought, ‘There’s no way that anyone is going to take issue with trying to make school lunches healthier and getting kids more active.'” This approach, however, did not unfold as she had hoped.
Obama remarked on how surprising the backlash was, particularly in today’s political climate. She noted that current Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. echoes some of the very sentiments she championed during her tenure.
