Vrabel’s coaching career began after his retirement from professional football in 2010. He took on the role of linebackers and defensive line coach at his alma mater, Ohio State University. He dedicated three seasons to mentoring young athletes there before making his NFL coaching debut in 2014.

His initial NFL position saw him serving as the linebackers coach for the Houston Texans. After three seasons, he earned a promotion to defensive coordinator in 2017. This role allowed him to further hone his skills and develop defensive strategies.

Transition to Head Coach

Following his time with the Texans, Vrabel was hired as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans in 2018. His six-year tenure with the Titans was marked by significant accomplishments, although it ended when he was dismissed following the 2023 season. “I felt like the time was right [to return]. I appreciated the interviews with the Chicago Bears and with the New York Jets and those organizations, and then once I was able to get here, we were able to get something done,” he remarked about the hiring process.
