FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino took to X to announce the seizure, stating, “Nine hundred pounds of meth seized during two traffic stops in Minnesota. Details of the Operation

The arrested individuals, identified as 46-year-old Joel Casas-Santiago and 44-year-old Guillermo Mercado Chaparro, face serious charges related to drug trafficking, as reported by FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Last week, an undercover police officer purchased meth from Chaparro. Subsequently, investigators obtained a court order to monitor his pickup truck, according to the criminal complaint filed in the case. This led to new developments in the operation.

On Monday, law enforcement observed Chaparro placing two bags into a Jeep parked adjacent to his pickup truck. Shortly thereafter, Casas-Santiago entered the Jeep, and both men departed in separate vehicles.

Discovery of Massive Quantities of Meth

Following their departure, police conducted a search of the Jeep and discovered approximately 251 pounds of suspected methamphetamine. With this evidence, authorities secured a warrant to search the pickup truck, resulting in the discovery of an additional 638 pounds of methamphetamine, alongside a drug ledger, as reported by FOX 9.

Chaparro reportedly confessed to his involvement in drug trafficking. Investigators suspect that both men are connected to a larger drug trafficking network operating out of Mexico.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office reflected on the scale of the seizure, stating, “In Minneapolis, Violent Crime Enforcement Teams arrested two men and seized the massive drug load — possibly one of the largest meth busts in Minnesota history.
