FIRST ON FOX: Aaron Ford, the Nevada Attorney General and a Democratic contender for governor in this critical swing state, recently attended the National Action Network’s convention. During his speech, he urged participants to remain vigilant and champion businesses that promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, known as DEI.
Ford’s enthusiasm was palpable as he greeted New York’s Democratic Attorney General Letitia James with cheers at Al Sharpton’s event earlier this month. He proudly referenced the affirmative action scholarship that enabled him to attend Texas A&M University.
In his speech, Ford emphasized the significance of equity in our society. He explained, “When they talk about the opposite of equity, it’s inequity. You work hard, but you don’t receive the same reward as everyone else for the same labor.” He openly supported corporations that refuse to abandon their DEI initiatives.
He cited well-known companies like Costco, Delta Airlines, and even the Cleveland Cavaliers, stating, “I know I’m in the wrong city for that, but the point I’m making is these places that adamantly continue to support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion deserve our support because they stand with us.”
Ford characterized the term ‘woke’ as a positive emblem of awareness and advocacy. He elaborated, “Here’s what’s happening right now. They don’t want you to ‘wake up everybody,’ referencing a classic Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes song. This is part of a broader agenda against those who seek understanding and truth.
He continued, “That’s why they’ve declared a war on woke. They don’t want you questioning what’s happening in your community. They aim to keep you ignorant and complacent. They are altering history books right before our eyes. Thus, it is essential to remain woke and to continuously ask questions while holding people accountable. You have the power to act, anytime and every time you feel compelled to do so.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Ford’s office for additional comments on his platform and vision. Ford has openly stated his intentions to challenge Republican incumbent Joe Lombardo for the governorship in a state that President Trump narrowly captured in the 2024 election.
His remarks in support of DEI came as many corporations throughout the nation have begun distancing themselves from similar initiatives. This shift follows recent actions by Trump aimed at dismantling DEI frameworks within the federal government.
Rev. Al Sharpton, who presides over the National Action Network, called for a boycott against businesses that have reduced their DEI commitments, highlighting companies such as Target. Sharpton emphasizes the importance of holding businesses accountable to their pledges, stating, “You can’t change your previous stance merely because an election approaches. If your fairness commitment hinges on electoral outcomes, then fine, but we also maintain the right to rethink our support for you.”
In summary, Ford’s emphatic message at the National Action Network’s convention underscores the ongoing relevance of DEI principles, particularly in political discourse. As the political landscape shift continues, the upcoming gubernatorial race in Nevada is poised to spotlight these crucial social issues more intensely.
