After Melanson allegedly ignored Lino’s demands, Lino attacked him, striking him repeatedly with the bat and ultimately killing him, as detailed in prosecutors’ statements.

Two years later, in 2012, Lino was living among homeless individuals near the Harvard Square subway station. At that time, he allegedly initiated a campaign to drive out heroin users from his group. This involved a series of assaults on various individuals throughout the day. However, when Lino faced Douglas Leon Clarke, 30 years old, he opted for a far more sinister approach.

According to prosecutors, Lino sought revenge on Clarke by luring him into a fatal overdose, providing him with a lethal dose of heroin, known as a “hot shot.”

District Attorney Ryan commented on these distressing allegations, expressing the community’s vulnerability, stating, “This defendant is alleged to repeatedly and deliberately victimize some of the most vulnerable members of our communities, unhoused individuals. The actions alleged in these cases were not only violent and cruel, but inhumane.”

Lino now faces two counts of first-degree murder and remains in custody in a Massachusetts jail as he awaits trial for the murders of Melanson and Clarke. However, news outlets have been unable to identify an attorney representing Lino at this time.
