FIRST ON FOX: A proposed bill by House Republicans aims to solidify former President Donald Trump’s executive order, which restricts transgender individuals from serving in the U.S. military. This legislation would transform the temporary policy into a permanent federal mandate.
The measure, introduced by Representative Barry Moore from Alabama, is set to be presented in Congress this week. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Moore indicated that his office has maintained communication with Trump’s administration regarding the bill.
Moore expressed concerns over the current trends within the military, stating, “The trans movement resulted in numerous individuals entering the service, signing contracts for six years, and subsequently beginning surgeries and hormone replacements. Many were not fit for duty. As a result, they used taxpayer money for these procedures and transitioning, only to leave just as they became eligible to serve.”
He emphasized that the legislation would not only alleviate financial burdens on taxpayers but also enhance overall recruitment within the armed forces.
“In many ways, taxpayers receive a greater return on investment with this legislation,” Moore said. A veteran himself, he highlighted the importance of having soldiers primarily focused on combat readiness. He remarked, “If I am deployed, I want to fight alongside individuals I have trained with, who possess the necessary capabilities. Such preparation is crucial on the battlefield.”
Sources close to Moore’s discussions reported that significant governmental bodies have shown support for the proposed bill. An email shared with Fox News Digital suggested acceptance from key departments, including the White House Office of Management and Budget, the Pentagon, the Department of Homeland Security, and the National Security Council.
Draft legislation obtained by Fox News Digital reveals that the bill, named the Readiness Over Wokeness Act, explicitly states it would “prohibit individuals with gender dysphoria from serving as members of the Armed Forces.” This includes bans on individuals with a history of gender-affirming care, such as cross-sex hormone therapy or gender reassignment surgeries.
Trump’s executive order, which initially banned transgender individuals from military service, was enacted shortly after he took office for his second term. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth later enforced this directive, marking the discharge of active transgender personnel in the military.
The policy faced legal challenges but was upheld recently by the Supreme Court, marking a key victory for Trump and his supporters.
Shortly after the ruling, Hegseth posted on social media, declaring, “No More Trans at the Defense Department.” This sentiment reflects a commitment to maintaining a military composed of individuals deemed fit for service.
During his first term, Trump implemented a similar policy, which was reversed by President Joe Biden shortly after he took office. However, if Moore’s bill secures approval from both the House and Senate, and eventually receives Trump’s signature, it could pose significant challenges for any future Democratic administration seeking to overturn this law.
As the political landscape around military service continues to evolve, responses to Moore’s proposed legislation may illustrate wider societal views on gender and military inclusion.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House for further comment and clarification on this emerging legislation and its anticipated effects on military policy.
