New Study Reveals Negative Bias Against ICE Coverage by Major Networks Following Fatal Shooting Incident
The portrayal of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as ICE, has been predominantly negative according to a recent analysis by the Media Research Center (MRC). This study targeted news coverage from major networks such as ABC, NBC, and CBS in the aftermath of the tragic shooting of Renee Nicole Good.
Study Overview and Analysis Period
The MRC examined all morning and evening newscasts on ABC, NBC, and CBS from January 7, when Good was shot and killed by an ICE officer, through January 17. This incident sparked a nationwide debate about immigration enforcement and incited violent confrontations against federal agents.
Key Findings of Negative Coverage
In the ten-day span following the shooting, the findings were striking. ABC, NBC, and CBS showcased an overwhelming majority of negative soundbites regarding ICE. Specifically, the analysis revealed 68 negative comments about the agency compared to a mere five positive ones, leading to a staggering 93 percent negativity rate across all news segments.
