EXCLUSIVE – Following President Donald Trump’s unexpected success in traditionally Democratic New York during the 2024 election, one Republican congresswoman is seizing the momentum with an energetic fundraising initiative. Her ambition is to flip key districts from blue to red and assist her party in broadening its House majority during the 2026 midterms.
Representative Claudia Tenney, a Republican from New York, has raised over $1 million in donations in the first quarter of this year. This considerable sum includes more than $223,000 allocated to the National Republican Congressional Committee. Tenney attributes her substantial fundraising success to 5,500 contributions from more than 2,400 individual donors.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Tenney characterized the upcoming 2026 election as a test of public sentiment regarding Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul. She criticized Hochul’s management of New York’s prison system, labeling it a devastating situation. Additionally, Tenney expressed concern about the unpopularity of Attorney General Letitia James, whom she accused of engaging in tactical prosecution and lawfare.
“We’ll have the weakest governor that we’ve had in a long time on the Democratic side facing a Republican in the election,” Tenney said.
As the founder of the House Election Integrity Caucus, Tenney believes that the gains Republicans made in New York during the 2022 and 2024 elections stemmed from strong grassroots efforts. These initiatives targeted both Republicans and moderate Democrats.
Her vision extends beyond winning additional House seats. Tenney hopes to challenge for the governor’s seat as well as several statewide offices. Furthermore, she contemplates a potential Republican resurgence in the New York City mayoral election.
Former Governor Andrew Cuomo is viewed as a leading candidate in the mayoral race, having already reported substantial fundraising figures and favorable polling results. In contrast, current Mayor Eric Adams is positioning himself as an independent candidate in the upcoming June primary. Adams has faced backlash from fellow Democrats for collaborating with the Trump administration on immigration policies.
Tenney’s political journey began with her election to the state legislature in 2010 during Cuomo’s first gubernatorial term. She recalls that within his first year, Cuomo abandoned his campaign pledges and instead implemented policies she categorizes as disastrous.
“Trump achieved remarkable results in New York in 2024, securing his finest turnout compared to previous elections. However, I believe the real referendum is on Kathy Hochul and the down-ballot Democrats. They continue to prioritize issues that have proven unpopular with voters, such as pushing for biological males to compete in women’s sports and failing to tackle illegal immigration effectively,” Tenney stated.
Tenney emphasized the need for Republicans to consistently deliver results. She is committed to using her position on the House Ways and Means Committee to continue the benefits of Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, aiming to pave a way toward economic revival and a so-called Golden Age.
In her role on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, Tenney also focuses on the energy sector, a topic of significant concern in her district. She noted that rising energy costs remain a pressing issue, particularly affecting seniors.
“People are increasingly concerned about soaring energy costs and the policies implemented by Hochul and the Democrats, which exacerbate this problem for seniors in New York,” Tenney asserted. “This situation poses a critical risk to our state’s economic future. The Democrats have compromised our state’s energy security, hindering our prosperity.”
Reflecting on the political landscape after the 2024 elections, Tenney believes Republicans have a revitalized opportunity in New York. She stated, “I refuse to allow my home state to dim. New York is the place I cherish. I love my district and my communities. We aspire to make New York Great Again, and that begins with replacing several Democrats with sensible Republicans who genuinely care about New Yorkers’ well-being and the future of our state.”
