Residents witnessed a tumultuous scene as cars sped across residential lawns, performing donuts in the street while chaos erupted. Video footage shared by City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino captures the frenetic atmosphere during the takeover.

Local resident Larry Rusch, a private security guard, heard the commotion and stepped outside to see the large gathering of vehicles. According to statements made to The New York Post, he quickly realized the extent of the disturbance.

In a courageous attempt to control the situation, Rusch parked his vehicle in the intersection, hoping to deter the chaotic drivers from causing further harm. “As soon as I did that, everyone started leaving,” Rusch recounted. “Then, two individuals approached my car, threw what appeared to be a firework, and ignited it. Then the melee began again.”

Footage shared by Paladino captures a vehicle engulfed in flames right in the middle of the street as cars zoom past it. Tensions escalated beyond mere property damage.

Additionally, Blake Ferrer, another local resident, sustained injuries while attempting to protect his property from the dangerous drivers. He described his confrontation with the group, stating, “When I came out, I said, ‘You need to get off my property.’ And that’s when the chaos began.”

The mob then allegedly turned their attention toward Ferrer and his wife, leaving him with serious injuries including a broken nose, shoulder, and ribs, as confirmed by The Post.

Another resident reported that during the takeover, objects were thrown into his vehicle, highlighting the widespread disorder that affected multiple homes throughout the neighborhood.

The community has faced years of rising crime rates, with Paladino stating that residents have been struggling against a surge of home robberies, burglaries, and car thefts. “This neighborhood has been plagued for the past two years with these issues that the whole city is experiencing,” Paladino remarked during an appearance on Fox & Friends.

As dawn broke, the devastating impact of the street takeover on this middle-class community became glaringly obvious.

In her video footage on social media, Paladino is seen assessing the damage alongside Rusch, pointing out burn marks on the road and his vehicle, whose windows had been shattered. She also spoke with residents who were either injured or had property damaged.

“At 12:30 a.m. last night, a hundred individuals descended upon this neighborhood,” Paladino asserted. She further detailed the destruction, saying, “You can see the skid marks everywhere. But what’s most alarming is that they set a car on fire, terrorizing this area.”

Previously, Paladino criticized the NYPD for its delayed response to the chaotic events. Residents who dialed 911 were reportedly told that the situation would be addressed by a quality of life team or a 311 service.

However, in response to media inquiries, the NYPD clarified that while the initial officer responding had been redirected to a more severe situation, once authorities recognized the escalation of the street takeover, they dispatched additional units promptly. This response came as they managed multiple serious incidents in the area.

A spokesperson for the NYPD explained, “The precinct covers a large area, and this was a particularly busy Saturday night. At the time of the incident, other units were dealing with various high-priority calls including a DWI arrest, transporting someone to the hospital, and handling a violent assault and vehicle collision with injuries.”

In light of this incident, the NYPD plans to bolster patrols in the area to ensure such occurrences do not happen in the future, reinforcing community safety efforts.

Meanwhile, Paladino has expressed deep concerns about the city’s accountability and response to rising crime rates, asserting that similar incidents are happening throughout New York City without significant repercussions for those involved.

“This was a meticulous attack,” Paladino concluded in her interview. “They were quite prepared for what unfolded.”
