The New York Yankees officially activated superstar right fielder Aaron Judge from the injured list on Tuesday, offering hope to a struggling team.
Currently facing a four-game losing streak, the Yankees find themselves slipping in the standings. The return of Judge is anticipated to provide the much-needed spark that the team has been lacking.
Judge, 33, was placed on the injured list on July 27, with his absence retroactive to July 26 due to a right elbow flexor strain. Fortunately, tests confirmed that he did not suffer a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament, allowing him to spend the minimum required time on the injured list.
Before his injury, the two-time American League MVP showcased another outstanding season. He boasted an impressive .342 batting average with 37 home runs and 85 runs batted in over 103 games.
While Judge’s activation is promising news, he has not resumed throwing since the injury occurred, which means he will return in the designated hitter role. Currently, Giancarlo Stanton occupies this position, adding another layer of complexity to the Yankees’ lineup.
Stanton, now 35, has emerged as one of the team’s strongest hitters since making his season debut on June 16. In 36 games, he has maintained a .270 batting average with 10 home runs and 28 RBI.
As Judge steps back into the lineup, the Yankees face the challenge of fitting Stanton into the mix. Due to Stanton’s declining speed—he last played in the outfield on September 14, 2023—he may have to take on outfield duties to accommodate Judge’s return to designated hitter.
Since May 28, the Yankees have struggled significantly, recording a disappointing 25-33 record. This lackluster performance has caused them to tumble from first place in the American League East to third, as the Boston Red Sox have surged ahead.
Despite these challenges, the Yankees currently hold the second Wild Card spot in the American League, providing them a glimmer of hope as they look to recover.
The New York Yankees, now at 60-53 with Judge back in the lineup, will face the Texas Rangers, who stand at 59-55, on Tuesday at 8:05 p.m. ET. A victory in this match could chart a new path for the team moving forward.
Aaron Judge’s return could prove pivotal for the Yankees, as they navigate a critical juncture in their season. Team dynamics will undoubtedly shift, and the impact of Judge’s presence will be closely monitored. With a fierce competition underway, the Yankees must rally around their superstar to reverse their current fortunes and aim for the playoffs.
