In a bold statement made on Friday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem proclaimed that America’s border has reached an unprecedented level of security, describing it as the “most secure” in the nation’s history. This assertion coincides with an impressive eighth consecutive month of zero parole releases.
Noem took to social media platform X to highlight recently released Customs and Border Protection (CBP) statistics for December 2025. She credited President Trump and law enforcement for delivering remarkable results that illustrate a stark contrast with previous administration policies.
She stated, “Thanks to President Trump’s leadership and the commitment of DHS law enforcement, America’s borders are safer than at any time in our nation’s history. What President Trump and our CBP agents and officers have accomplished in just a single year is nothing short of extraordinary.”
The December statistics provided by CBP reveal that there were zero parole releases, a notable reduction compared to the 7,041 releases recorded along the southwest border in December 2024 under the Biden administration.
Noem emphasized that this latest data marks a return to a record low number of encounters at the border, stating, “Once again, we have a record low number of encounters at the border and the eighth straight month of zero releases. Month after month, we are achieving results that once seemed impossible: the most secure border in history and unparalleled enforcement successes.”
Between October and December, total nationwide encounters dropped to 91,603. This figure represents the lowest number ever documented at the beginning of a fiscal year and a 25% decrease from the previous record low established in 2012.
In December alone, there were only 30,698 encounters registered nationwide, a staggering 92% reduction from the Biden administration’s peak of 370,883 and the lowest December total on record, according to the federal agency.
Incredible achievements are also reflected in Q1 outcomes for fiscal year 2026 along the southwest border, where Border Patrol recorded just 21,815 apprehensions. This figure signals a dramatic 95% drop compared to the average first-quarter totals under the Biden administration, as noted by CBP.
Border Patrol agents made 6,478 apprehensions in December, showcasing a 96% decrease from the monthly average seen during the Biden era, which means fewer apprehensions than in just four days back in December 2024.
Throughout December, agents averaged 209 apprehensions per day, whereas previous Biden-era levels surpassed that frequency every 1.5 hours. Such remarkable progress reflects a significant shift in border enforcement strategies that prioritize security over leniency.
CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott praised the dedication of agents in achieving these records, stating, “Our agents and officers have set a new standard for border security, achieving historic results that speak for themselves.”
Additionally, in December, CBP secured 39,030 pounds of illicit drugs nationwide. They will continue to ensure the safety and security of our nation’s borders every single day.”
