A personal Bible gifted to O.J. Simpson by his former attorney Robert Kardashian Sr. has been sold at auction for an impressive price. The auction concluded with the final bid tipping the scales at $80,276, as reported by TMZ.
Initially, Kardashian’s daughter Kim Kardashian attempted to secure the family heirloom, offering $15,000 to purchase it. However, her offer was declined, according to sources.
The auction, which closed just after 11 p.m. on March 29, attracted considerable attention, with a total of 49 bids placed on the Bible. Remarkably, 14 of those bids submitted on the final day indicate a fierce competition among buyers eager to own a piece of history.
The Bible included a touching inscription from Kardashian, who famously represented Simpson during his high-profile murder trial. The inscription reportedly reads:
“O.J., this book will help. God loves and he will speak to you with his words. Read this book every day. God has a definite plan for your life. You are his child and he will use you again. I love you and God loves you.”
Malcolm LaVergne, overseeing O.J. Simpson’s estate, spoke to TMZ about the auction. He expressed uncertainty regarding the identity of the buyer but highlighted how Simpson’s legacy continues to captivate both supporters and detractors. Regardless of public opinion, it’s evident that Simpson’s influence remains profound.
The auction itself generated approximately $300,000 in sales, featuring other notable collectibles related to Simpson. Among those items was a personally signed framed photograph of Simpson alongside former President Bill Clinton, which sold for over $18,000. Additionally, a replica of Simpson’s iconic 1968 Heisman Trophy fetched $42,700.
O.J. Simpson first garnered national attention in 1968 when he won the Heisman Trophy as a standout running back for the University of Southern California. Later, in 1973, he became the first NFL running back to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a single season, cementing his place in football history.
Simpson’s high-profile murder trial saw him defended by a renowned legal team often referred to as the “Dream Team.” This group included notable lawyers such as Johnnie Cochran, Alan Dershowitz, Robert Kardashian, Shawn Holley, and Robert Shapiro. They effectively convinced jurors to entertain doubts regarding the prosecution’s case, leading to Simpson’s acquittal in the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.
Despite the not guilty verdict, Simpson continued to encounter legal issues for several years. A civil lawsuit resulted in him being ordered to pay $33.5 million to the victims’ families. However, he has not fulfilled much of that financial obligation.
O.J. Simpson passed away on April 10, 2024, after a private battle with prostate cancer. His life and career have remained subjects of public interest, drawing admiration, criticism, and commentary alike.
This remarkable auction serves as a reminder of the complex legacy that Simpson left behind. His impact on sports and pop culture remains significant, while items like this Bible offer insights into his personal journey.
