An Ohio school administrator, who maintained a family life, has been sentenced to three years in prison for engaging in a sexual relationship with a teenage student in her office.
Emily Nutley, a 43-year-old former counselor at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, previously pleaded guilty to sexual battery in April. As part of her sentencing, she is required to register as a Tier 3 sex offender every 90 days for the rest of her life, per reports from WLWT’s journalist.
Despite Ohio law not mandating a prison sentence for this particular crime, the victim’s family sought the maximum sentence possible. The prosecutors requested a five-year term, while the defense’s plea was for probation.
According to a sentencing memorandum obtained from local news sources, text messages revealed that Nutley initiated the relationship with the male student in late 2023. The student, who was 17 years old at that time, received explicit photos from Nutley and participated in at least four sexual encounters with her.
When the teen attempted to end the relationship, Nutley, then 42, allegedly made alarming threats, including the possibility of self-harm, and paid the student to remain discreet about their interactions.
The student eventually confided in his parents about the situation on October 7, 2024, and met with school officials the next day. Following an internal investigation, Nutley was terminated from her role at the school on October 11, 2024.
