Parents Demand Nationwide Audit of K-12 Education Policies Amid DEI Concerns

FIRST ON FOX: A coalition of parental rights organizations has formally requested comprehensive audits of education laws across all 50 states. This initiative comes in response to ongoing issues related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, along with problematic hiring practices and discrimination based on sex and gender in K-12 education nationwide.

The letter, spearheaded by Defending Education and endorsed by over 20 similar organizations, calls on state leaders and officials in Washington, D.C. to either repeal or amend laws that permit race or sex preferences in hiring and educational programming. The letter highlights violations of Titles VI, VII, and IX of the Civil Rights Act, as well as the Equal Protection Clause, stressing the need to prioritize student safety by enforcing stricter standards in hiring practices.

Erika Sanzi, senior director of communications at Defending Education, expressed her concerns in a conversation with Fox News Digital, stating, “It has become common practice for states to violate federal law in the name of diversity.” She emphasized the prevalence of ideologically driven policy in schools today, declaring, “Cowardice and ignorance have ruled the day for far too long. It’s time that every state cleans up the mess they’ve made in the name of DEI.”

The letter underscores teacher vetting as a critical issue, referencing the recent resignation of Des Moines, Iowa, Superintendent Ian Roberts. He resigned after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement following a brief police chase. Reports indicate that authorities arrested him due to a final order of removal and lack of work authorization.

Roberts allegedly entered the United States illegally from Guyana and had not been authorized to work since his employment authorization card expired in 2020. Additionally, Homeland Security officials confirmed that Roberts had faced weapon possession charges and was found with a loaded handgun during his arrest.

Furthermore, the letter points to alarming trends of teachers accused of sexually abusing children, revealing that such offenders often move between school districts. The letter claims that a public school employee who sexually abuses students can pass through an average of three school districts and harm up to 73 children before facing termination or criminal consequences.

Collective bargaining agreements negotiated between teachers’ unions and school districts contribute significantly to this issue, often enabling the expungement of personnel records, thereby obscuring a history of abuse. The letter describes the lack of transparency in educational employment as both staggering and unacceptable.

Parent groups involved in the campaign include School Boards for Academic Excellence, Parents Unite, Protective Parent Coalition, Conservative Ladies of America, Awake Illinois, Power2Parent, and Californians for Equal Rights Foundation.

In the past, the Trump administration took significant steps to curtail DEI practices on a federal level, integrating various executive orders aimed at dismantling DEI initiatives within government, military frameworks, and educational environments.

Despite these efforts, reports from Fox News Digital indicate that several organizations and educational institutions have failed to abolish DEI programs. Instead, numerous agencies have rebranded existing initiatives under different labels and shifted DEI personnel to alternate departments.
