The PGA Tour has imposed an indefinite suspension on golfer Wesley Bryan for his involvement in LIV Golf’s event, “The Duels: Miami”. This news has raised eyebrows in the golfing community and beyond.

Bryan is currently in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, at the Puntacana Resort & Club. However, he is not participating in the Corales Puntacana Championship, a tournament where he finished as runner-up last season.

In an interview, Bryan explained his decision to vacation in the Dominican Republic, stating, “We had this vacation planned for months, so I decided we would still come down. It’s been a long time since we had a family vacation where golf wasn’t involved.” Bryan is sharing a rental home with fellow PGA Tour player Ben Martin.

Reports indicate that Bryan learned about his suspension just one day after competing in The Duels: Miami. This unique event was aimed at golf content creators, showcasing talents across various platforms, including popular YouTube channels.

Bryan’s YouTube channel, “Bryan Bros”, featuring his brother George, has gained substantial traction among golf enthusiasts. Their participation in The Duels: Miami was a result of an invitation from LIV Golf, which attracted several content creators to partake in the tournament.

The Duels: Miami saw six golfers from LIV Golf teaming up with popular golf content creators in a scramble format over nine holes. The tournament featured a significant purse of $250,000, ultimately won by the team of George Bryan and Sergio Garcia.

Following the event, reports surfaced indicating that golfers participating in The Duels had received warnings about potential disciplinary actions from the PGA Tour. While the warnings seemed broad, it became clear that Bryan was the only one facing possible repercussions.

This controversy may stem from the PGA Tour’s Creator Classic, held before The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. The Duels shared a similar concept by spotlighting golf content creators aiming to promote the sport.

Another notable golf YouTuber, Grant Horvat, revealed he received an invitation to attend the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship scheduled in California from July 17-20. However, Horvat has yet to accept this invitation.

Horvat’s YouTube content from The Duels: Miami, uploaded recently, has already amassed over 2 million views, demonstrating the significant interest in the event.

In light of his suspension, Bryan expressed his intention to follow the necessary appeal process established by the PGA Tour. “For the last eight or nine years, the opportunities have been amazing,” he remarked. With one career win on the PGA Tour, he added, “I’m extremely grateful to the Tour for that. I don’t want this to be the end of my professional golf career.” Bryan remains optimistic and dedicated to his journey in the sport.

Despite the suspension, Bryan does not regret participating in The Duels: Miami. He praised Horvat’s recently shared content, stating, “[Horvat’s] video is one of the most powerful videos in YouTube golf. We are going to continue to support Grant and grow the game through YouTube.” This sentiment underscores a growing movement within the golfing world, merging traditional golf with innovative digital content.
