Political Scandal: Former Aide Accused of Staging Violent Attack

A former aide to Congressman Jeff Van Drew, a Republican from New Jersey, has been charged with fabricating a violent political attack. Authorities allege that 26-year-old Natalie Greene, from Ocean City, orchestrated a hoax that involved self-inflicted injuries and false claims.

Greene made her initial court appearance on a Wednesday, where she faced one count of conspiracy to convey false statements and hoaxes alongside one count of making false statements to federal law enforcement. This followed the alleged incident in Egg Harbor Township during the summer.

The Alleged Hoax Unfolds

On the night of July 23, 2025, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, Greene’s co-conspirator made a 911 call alleging that they had been attacked by three men while walking along a nature trail. The call claimed that these assailants specifically referenced Greene’s employment with a federal official.

When law enforcement arrived, they found Greene in a wooded area near the trail, with her hands and feet bound with black zip ties. Reports indicate that her shirt was pulled over her head and also secured with zip ties. Greene had multiple lacerations on her face, neck, upper chest, and shoulder, with derogatory phrases scrawled on her body, including ‘TRUMP W—-‘ on her stomach and ‘[Federal Official 1] IS RACIST’ on her back. Authorities noted that she was visibly distressed, claiming one of her attackers had a gun.

Inconsistencies Emerge

Despite the alarming details given by Greene, federal prosecutors later stated that their investigation refuted her claims. Greene initially told responding officers that her alleged attackers threatened her with a gun and restrained her, inflicting cuts and writing on her.

After receiving medical attention for her injuries, Greene repeatedly described the supposed attack to law enforcement and a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent. Nevertheless, the investigation concluded that she had not been assaulted by three men at gunpoint.

Authorities revealed that Greene had paid a body modification artist to intentionally inflict the lacerations on her body. Law enforcement discovered black zip ties in her vehicle, which matched those used to bind her during the staged incident. The count of conspiracy could result in a maximum of five years in prison, alongside a potential fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release.
