Pro-Life Organization Calls for Investigation into Controversial Abortion Pill Advertisements in Florida

FIRST ON FOX: A prominent pro-life organization has urged Florida’s Attorney General James Uthmeier to investigate a nonprofit accused of disseminating what it describes as deceptive abortion pill advertisements across the state.

On September 19, 40 Days for Life submitted a letter to Uthmeier, calling for action against Mayday Health, a nonprofit based in New York. This entity has placed billboards throughout Florida promoting abortion pills such as mifepristone and misoprostol.

Shawn Carney, president and CEO of 40 Days for Life, expressed his concerns in an interview with Fox News Digital. He stated, “Those pictures are not artificial intelligence. They are actual pictures of boats floating in front of tourists — trying to get a tan, trying to enjoy their time off of work — and yet they’re having abortion pills shoved in their face. It’s out of touch and could be illegal.”

The organization contends that the advertisements fail to provide essential information. The billboards neglect to disclose critical FDA warnings about risks associated with these medications, such as hemorrhage and infection. Additionally, they omit federally mandated safety protocols and possible legal repercussions for Florida residents.

Carney remarked, “It shows once again how out of touch abortion advocates are in a post-Roe America where they lack a sense of mission. They cannot read the room at all and now they can’t read the law.”

Calls for Legal Action

Members of 40 Days for Life are pushing for Florida’s top prosecutor to initiate an investigation and potentially pursue prosecution against Mayday Health.

According to Carney, “They need to be investigated and possibly prosecuted because this definitely seems like a violation of Florida’s deceptive advertising law.”

Currently, Florida has stringent abortion regulations, prohibiting most abortions after six weeks. This positions the state among the strictest in the nation regarding abortion laws. Carney noted that the grassroots structure of 40 Days for Life, which boasts over 1 million participants in 1,800 locations worldwide, allows the group to identify local issues quickly.

He stated, “When things like this happen at the local level, we’re the first to see it. So when we see these new ad campaigns for abortion pills or whether we see doctors performing illegal abortions, we will investigate, report, and take legal action.”

The Impact of Roe v. Wade’s Overturning

Carney further argued that the overturning of Roe v. Wade has compelled abortion advocates to defend positions he sees as increasingly extreme.

He emphasized that Gen Z has become more sympathetic to pro-life sentiments, as they are the first generation to have access to their own ultrasound images. Carney declared, “Gen Z has turned against abortion because they’re the first generation in our country to ever have a photo of their own ultrasound. And that’s why they are the most pro-life generation ever at their age.”

No Comment from Authorities

As of now, both Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier and representatives from Mayday Health have not responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

The ongoing debate around abortion remains contentious, particularly with recent legislative changes. This latest controversy surrounding misleading advertisements adds another layer to the unfolding dialogue.

In summary, as the pro-life group presses for accountability and transparency, the legal ramifications and social implications of such advertising tactics come under scrutiny. The outcome of this situation could significantly influence public perception and regulatory frameworks surrounding abortion in Florida and beyond.
