During their first rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez rallied supporters even as Trump was signing orders aimed at dismantling the Department of Education, a long-sought goal for conservative factions.

Ocasio-Cortez did not hold back as she addressed attendees, condemning Trump and his Republican allies. She accused them of misleading working and middle-class Americans, claiming they prioritize tax cuts for billionaires over critical social services. This includes issues related to health care, Social Security, and veterans’ benefits.

Sanders echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the threat posed by Trump’s administration. He argued that Trump’s actions are undermining Congress while also encroaching upon the judiciary. He specified, “Every day, Trump is trying to take power away from Congress. Dubbed the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, the duo’s campaign is set to continue through Denver and Greeley, Colorado, before wrapping up in Tucson, Arizona. These rallies come at a crucial juncture, as party members grow increasingly discontent with Senate Democratic leadership, particularly in light of a recent bipartisan funding bill supported by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Schumer faces scrutiny from within his party for siding with Republicans, prompting criticism among more progressive factions. Notably, Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez did not address Schumer’s leadership challenges during their speeches. However, the discontent towards his decisions was palpable among rally attendees.

Echoes of dissatisfaction towards Schumer resonated at both Las Vegas and Tempe rallies. Attendees expressed disappointment with his decisions, articulating a yearning for a leader who prioritizes substantial resistance to figures like Trump and Musk. Amanda Ratloff from Gilbert, Arizona, succinctly captured the sentiment, stating, “We need somebody that will actually fight back and fight for the American people and not just give in to Elon Musk and Donald Trump.”

This collective frustration was exemplified by chants of
