Queen Camilla will not attend the funeral of Katharine, the Duchess of Kent, as she recovers from acute sinusitis. Buckingham Palace confirmed this news, expressing regret over her absence.
On Tuesday, the palace released a statement saying, “With great regret, Her Majesty The Queen has withdrawn from attendance at this afternoon’s Requiem Mass for The Duchess of Kent as she is recovering from acute sinusitis. Her thoughts and prayers will be with The Duke of Kent and all the family.”
The late Duchess of Kent passed away earlier this month at the age of 92. Queen Camilla traveled from Scotland earlier that day, intending to pay her respects, but is now resting at Windsor Castle. Meanwhile, King Charles and other senior royals attended the funeral service at Westminster Cathedral.
Katharine, Duchess of Kent, Remembered
Having played an active role in royal duties over the years, Katharine was known for her charitable endeavors and dedication to public service. Her legacy will be honored in various ways, as she made significant contributions throughout her life.
Pending her recovery, Queen Camilla plans to participate in the state visit with former President Donald Trump on Wednesday. The royal family anticipates this visit will continue several longstanding diplomatic traditions.
State Visit of Donald Trump and Melania
Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are set to arrive at Windsor Castle on September 17. The royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton, will officially greet them upon their arrival. Following the greeting, they will meet with King Charles and Queen Camilla, provided her health improves.
Back in July, Buckingham Palace made an announcement regarding the Trump’s state visit to the United Kingdom scheduled from September 17 to 19. King Charles III will host the couple at Windsor Castle, maintaining the warm British-American relations.
The Role of the Princess of Wales
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams conveyed to Fox News Digital that Princess Catherine will play an essential role during this state visit. She will support her husband, the heir to the British throne, and thus help to reinforce the monarchy’s position in a global context.
Helena Chard, a British broadcaster and photographer, echoed this sentiment, remarking that there is a collective positivity surrounding Catherine’s involvement. She noted that everyone is upbeat, aware that Kate will take on a pivotal role throughout the state visit.
“It marks a pivotal moment in putting Catherine on the world stage,” Fitzwilliams explained. “This signifies a turning point for her, as she prepares for more high-profile appearances that will boost Britain’s image during this significant diplomatic visit.”
He added that this visit is of utmost importance, offering both nations an opportunity to connect in a meaningful way. Their appearances could potentially enhance public interest in the royal family.
Looking Ahead to Future Engagements
Fitzwilliams expressed hopes that the Waleses could soon embark on an international tour. Such endeavors would attract enormous interest globally, marking another chapter in the royal family’s ongoing engagements.
Before this visit was confirmed, a formal invitation was signed by King Charles and delivered directly to the White House by British officials, inviting Trump for this state visit. A palace aide mentioned, “His Majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year.”
As the upcoming events unfold, the royal family hopes to navigate through the complexities of royal engagements while also addressing significant issues of health and diplomacy.
