In the wake of President Donald Trump’s first two months in office, a recent Fox News Poll highlights a significant division among voters regarding various aspects of his agenda. With more than 90 executive orders signed in a short span, public sentiment remains a mixed bag.
The survey, released on Thursday, indicates that one of the most popular proposals involves banning transgender women from competing in women’s sports. This policy commands overwhelming support, with a notable 68% of voters in favor and only 30% opposing it.
On February 5, Trump put his signature on the executive order titled ‘Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports’ to formalize this stance. The measure reflects a broader trend in Trump’s policies that resonate strongly with certain demographics while alienating others.
Aside from the sports ban, several of Trump’s other proposals enjoy considerable support among the electorate. Making English the official language of the United States, for instance, garners approval from 66% of voters, while 63% support deporting illegal immigrants. Additionally, a slim majority, 54%, back the idea of officially recognizing only two genders, and there is also a 53% approval rating for increasing domestic drilling and oil production.
Despite some clear preferences, voters express significantly divided opinions on issues concerning federal employment and diversity initiatives. Reducing the number of federal employees shows a split perspective, with 46% of voters favoring the idea while 51% oppose it. Similarly, ending diversity, equity, and inclusion programs sees a slightly higher opposition, with approximately 51% disapproving and 45% supporting it.
The survey also identified proposals that resonate less positively with the public. For example, Trump’s suggestion to take over the Panama Canal receives support from only 39% of voters, with 57% opposing it. Other unpopular proposals include closing the Department of Education, which has only 32% approval, renaming the Gulf of Mexico (31% favor, 67% oppose), and seeking control over Greenland (26% approval, 70% against).
