Remembering Charlie Kirk: A Fearless Advocate for Faith and Freedom

On September 10, America mourned the loss of a courageous soul, and a family faced the heartbreaking absence of a beloved father.

Charlie Kirk, renowned for his unwavering commitment to truth, was taken from us while passionately speaking at Utah Valley University. His presence was formidable, his voice powerful. Throughout his journey in life, he stood defiantly for the Gospel and the truth, never flinching or displaying regret.

In an era yearning for bold leadership, God gifted us with Charlie Kirk. The youth movement, the rise of President Donald Trump, and the impactful voice of influential figures like J.D. Vance owe much to Charlie’s relentless efforts. Remarkably, despite his growing influence, he treated everyone with kindness, making even the most ordinary person feel valued through genuine conversations.

The Book of Acts tells the story of Stephen, who faced stoning for expressing truth. As he looked up to heaven, he beheld Christ welcoming him. Many believe that Charlie experienced a similar vision in his final moments. His fearlessness stemmed not from ignorance, but from his profound reverence for God.

Reflecting on a particular incident last year, Charlie faced a significant challenge when he lost his voice before a scheduled event at Penn State. In a heartfelt text, he expressed concern for the students and their expectations. I quickly arranged my travel to support him. The following day, Penn State officials unexpectedly canceled our event. Nevertheless, with determination, I harnessed a bullhorn and together we engaged the thousands of students who stood waiting. The joy on Charlie’s face still resonates with me as he beamed, “God bless you.” It was a testament to his unwavering spirit.

Charlie embodied this ethos. Every action, every expression was rooted in his devotion to glorifying God.

A true man of faith, Charlie ventured beyond the public sphere. Together, we spent countless nights seeking the Lord’s guidance through prayer. He often sent me inspirational verses at odd hours, emphasizing that “the joy of the Lord is our strength,” as stated in Nehemiah 8:10. Though he donned the armor of politics, his most formidable weapon remained the Word of God, the sword of the Spirit.

Charlie Kirk was multifaceted—a devoted father, a creative force, a steadfast leader, and one of my closest confidants. He was the architect behind Turning Point USA and nurtured a loving household alongside his wife, Erika, and their two cherished children. His loving example of how a man should cherish his spouse, as Christ loved the Church, stands out as perhaps his most enduring legacy.

In light of his passing, Melania Trump offered a poignant tribute, honoring both Charlie and the family he leaves behind.

Charlie understood the inherent dangers in the world around him. Post-Butler, I engaged in a candid discussion with him about the risks he faced, including the possibility of death. Remarkably, he expressed no intention of retreating.

He departed this world as a warrior—his last public address responding bravely to questions regarding the chaos and violence plaguing our nation. In this way, Charlie Kirk emerges as a martyr, leaving an indelible mark on all who were touched by his message.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends,” beautifully encapsulates his spirit.

At just 31 years of age, Charlie lived a life richly filled with purpose, embodying the essence of what it means to truly live. He never faltered in his pursuit of righteousness.

As I reflect on his legacy, I find profound sorrow for Erika, their children, and his entire family. Yet, my heart finds solace knowing that Charlie knew the promise of everlasting life through Christ. Jesus reassured us, saying, “I am the resurrection and the life. Who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” Charlie embodied this belief with every ounce of his being. Now, he beholds Truth face to face.

To many, Charlie Kirk represented a conservative firebrand. To me, he was much more—a brother in arms, a dedicated servant of God, and a fellow soldier advocating for faith. He forged ahead, embracing his foundation in Christ and trusting the assurance that perfect love dispels fear.

Let us memorialize Charlie by emulating his life—through boldness, faith, and earnest prayer. The same God who welcomed Charlie home will one day eradicate every tear from our eyes. Until that day arrives, we should uphold the values he championed. We carry his banner, shoulder the cross he bore, and move forward illuminated by Christ’s light and the love of our nation.

God bless you, Charlie. I promise to share your story with your children. You stood firm and fought valiantly. I take comfort in knowing you now dwell in the presence of the King.

Until we reunite, dear brother.
