Rep. Byron Donalds from Florida has publicly accused Minnesota Democrats of fueling unrest against immigration enforcement at a time when federal agents experience increasing confrontations in Minneapolis.

Donalds did not hold back his criticism for Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, labeling him as a “fool and a clown.” He expressed that if state leaders genuinely wanted to uphold the rule of law, they would enroll in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) 287(g) program.

This program empowers state and local law enforcement agencies to implement certain aspects of immigration law, thereby expanding their authority to identify, process, and detain noncitizens who are subject to deportation under ICE supervision.

“But he doesn’t want to do that. Mayor Frey and Governor Walz prefer chaos,” Donalds stated during an appearance on the morning show Fox & Friends.

He further elaborated, saying, “They want the AstroTurf protesters… They’re resisting President Trump because their party lacks clear ideas, opting for this combative approach instead.”

According to Donalds, the protesters seemed to be incentivized to create a disturbance and accused them of double standards regarding free speech. This statement followed an anti-ICE protest at a St. Paul church on Sunday, where protesters disrupted a worship service, mistakenly believing that a pastor present had connections to ICE.

“These individuals claim to uphold the First Amendment rights, yet they disregarded the rights of the church congregation to worship freely,” Donalds commented.

The escalating tensions between ICE agents and protesters in Minnesota are largely a response to the controversial death of Renee Good, during an ICE operation. This incident has spotlighted the ongoing struggles between enforcement agencies and local communities.
