Republicans Urge Justice Department to Release JFK and Epstein Files Amid Ongoing Delays

Republican lawmakers are increasing their pressure on the Justice Department to expedite the release of classified documents related to President John F. Kennedy’s assassination and other critical federal secrets. This issue has gained prominence as the calls for transparency grow louder.

Earlier this year, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to develop plans for the distribution of these files. This includes documents connected to the murders of notable figures such as Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Calls for Accountability from Leadership

At the forefront of this push is Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida. She leads the House Oversight Committee’s Task Force, aimed at uncovering the truth behind the federal government’s classified files. However, despite her efforts, Luna claims she has yet to receive any responses from the Department of Justice regarding the status of these documents.

On social media platform X, Luna expressed her frustrations, stating, “On Feb 11 and Feb 19, the House Oversight Committee sent a letter to the DOJ seeking updates on the status of the Epstein files and JFK documents. Unfortunately, the DOJ has remained silent. I am reaching out on X because we have not received any feedback from the Attorney General. What is the status of these documents? They were ordered to be declassified.”

Request for Further Information

Additionally, Luna has communicated with high-ranking officials in the government, including the Director of National Intelligence, Attorney General Pam Bondi, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and White House Counsel David Warrington. She formally requested a briefing on plans for the documents’ release, setting a deadline of Thursday for their response.

The legislative letter demanded clarity regarding when the declassified documents would be available to both the task force and the public. Trump’s executive order had previously instructed the Department of Justice to collaborate with the aforementioned officials to establish a timeline for releasing the JFK files by February 7, while plans for the MLK and Robert F. Kennedy files were slated for delivery by March 9.

The Epstein Client List Inquiry

Furthermore, Luna is advocating for more information on Jeffrey Epstein’s client list, which has garnered significant media attention since the financier’s death in 2019 while he awaited trial on sex trafficking charges. Luna’s statements reflect a broader desire among Republicans for transparency regarding the Epstein investigation.

On her end, Bondi confirmed on a recent television appearance that the Epstein client list is under review. She stated, “It’s sitting on my desk right now to review the Epstein files. This has been a directive by President Trump.”

Responses from Fellow Legislators

Representatives across the Republican party echo similar demands for transparency. Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee stated that the Democrats impede her attempts to
