French startup Flying Whales is embarking on a groundbreaking initiative to revolutionize cargo transportation with its innovative Large Capacity Airship 60 Tonne project. This remarkable helium-filled airship, stretching an impressive 656 feet in length, is designed to connect urban centers with remote and hard-to-reach areas. It will transport essential goods and materials without requiring traditional ground infrastructure.
The LCA60T boasts a staggering cargo capacity of up to 132,000 pounds, eclipsing the capabilities of the Airbus Beluga XL. With a helium volume of 6.3 million cubic feet, this airship can soar to a maximum altitude of 10,000 feet. Powered by 32 electric propeller drives generating a combined 5,360 horsepower, the LCA60T is capable of reaching speeds of up to 63 mph. Its design incorporates advanced engineering features that enhance both safety and performance.
The structure of the LCA60T is worth noting. It includes a skeletal frame designed with composite beam lattice construction and metal joints for durability. For instance, Evolito is set to supply the airship’s 32 D250 electric motors, each capable of producing 308 horsepower.
