Rhode Island Teacher Set to Return After Controversial Remarks About Charlie Kirk
A Rhode Island high school teacher will be reinstated following an administrative leave due to his derogatory remarks about Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who was recently assassinated. Benjamin Fillo, a social studies teacher at Barrington High School, faced backlash for calling Kirk a ‘piece of garbage’ in a social media post.
Bob Mitchell, the Interim Superintendent of Barrington Public Schools, informed parents and staff via email that Fillo would resume teaching duties on December 1. Despite acknowledging a violation of the district’s policy regarding social media use, the administration is moving forward to restore order within the educational environment.
In his email, Mitchell stated that the independent investigation confirmed Fillo’s breach of conduct, which significantly disrupted the district. He expressed the necessity of fostering a safe and supportive atmosphere for students and staff as the school transitions back to normal operations.
