Robin Wright Faces Past Regrets While Embracing a New Journey
At 59 years old, Robin Wright is exploring her past while looking ahead to a promising future. The accomplished actress, known for her role in House of Cards, recently shared her reflections in an insightful interview.
During a conversation with The Times of London, Wright opened up about her feelings of regret regarding her approach to parenting her two children, whom she shares with ex-husband Sean Penn. She also revealed her decision to leave behind the Hollywood hustle for a simpler life in the English countryside.
A Mother’s Regret
“I have a huge regret as a mother and have experienced the fallout of this regret for many years with my kids,” Wright stated. She shares a daughter, Dylan, aged 34, and a son, Hopper, aged 32, with Penn. “I wasn’t hard enough on them.”
Wright elaborated on the challenges she faced, indicating that while Penn was often absent, he would return to take on the role of disciplinarian. “He’d come back and be the policeman and then he’d leave me with the residue.” This approach, according to Wright, prevented their children from experiencing the balanced parenting they needed.
The Complexities of Their Relationship
Wright and Penn were married in 1996 before finalizing their divorce in 2010. Their relationship began in 1989, following Penn’s divorce from Madonna. Throughout their time together, they had numerous ups and downs that led to frequent separations.
In a previous interview with The Telegraph, Wright described the emotional toll that their divorce took on their family. “Divorce in and of itself, and with children, is devastating. Worse than that,” she recalled. “We tried to keep the family together and ended up breaking up many times.”
Leaving Hollywood Behind
After enduring years of public scrutiny and three failed marriages, Wright decided to seek solace away from the entertainment industry. She relocated to England in the hope of finding peace and fulfillment.
Wright expressed her appreciation for her new surroundings, stating, “I love being in this country. There’s a freedom of self here.” She contrasted the slower pace of life in England with the frantic lifestyle often found in America, where people are often consumed by traffic and deadlines.
