Ron Howard and his wife are marking a remarkable milestone as they celebrate 50 years of marriage. Their journey together, which began in high school, continues to inspire couples everywhere.
In a recent heartfelt gesture, the Academy Award-winning director revealed that he and his wife, Cheryl Howard, donated a Victorian-style love seat to a park in the Los Angeles area where they once shared romantic dates. This donation exemplifies their commitment to love as they honor their golden anniversary.
Howard shared his intriguing idea for the love seat, describing it as a traditional space for couples to connect. He told People magazine that he envisioned an old-fashioned love seat where couples could sit, converse, and perhaps steal a kiss. Initially, he had considered a standard bench but decided a special love seat would convey a deeper meaning.
The bronze love seat, which Howard affectionately refers to as the “kissing chair,” is now a feature at Johnny Carson Park and is valued at approximately $88,440, according to the City of Burbank.
The roots of Howard’s romance with Cheryl go back to their high school days. The couple spent cherished moments in the very park where the love seat now resides, a space where they would often hang out and share intimate conversations.
Recently, Howard’s younger brother, actor Clint Howard, visited the park. He captured a photo of a couple enjoying a moment in the love seat, promptly sharing it with Ron. Clint reported, “Hey, it’s working,” signaling the success of their tribute to love.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Clint praised Ron and Cheryl’s enduring partnership. He remarked on how Ron had a focused vision for his life since childhood, shaping his future while fostered by a strong friendship with Cheryl. They have navigated life together, raising a family and supporting one another’s dreams.
Ron and Cheryl married on June 7, 1975, when Ron was just 21 years old. Reflecting on their early days, Ron expressed an unwavering certainty about their relationship, stating, “I was just so sure.”
Ron’s wedding was modest yet memorable. He had his “Happy Days” co-star Henry Winkler as his best man. Winkler fondly recalled catching the garter at the event, symbolizing the deep-rooted friendships interwoven in the couple’s journey.
Recently, Ron celebrated their anniversary by sharing a touching photo on Instagram. The snapshot featured him and Cheryl embracing against the backdrop of a stunning beach sunset. In his post, Ron conveyed gratitude for the years they had spent together, writing, “Grateful for 50 amazing years and the family and experiences it has yielded. What an adventure down river through calm soothing waters and some tricky rapids as well. Our key…love and respect each other enough to just keep paddling. Thank God for you, Cheryl.” He marked the occasion with the hashtag #GoldenAnniversary.
Throughout their marriage, the couple welcomed four children into the world. Among them is their daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, known for her role in “Jurassic World.” Their twins, Jocelyn and Paige Howard, along with their son Reed Howard, round out the family. Each child has pursued their own endeavors, showcasing the values instilled by Ron and Cheryl.
Howard shared insights about their wedding, describing it as a simple affair that nonetheless packed an emotional punch. Cheryl’s father insisted on paying for the ceremony, which led to their decision to keep it small. Although they invited 300 guests, Ron recalled with a smile how the church filled to capacity, with many friends from both “The Andy Griffith Show” and “Happy Days” in attendance.
Highlighting the wedding’s low-key nature, Ron remembered that they did not have a grand reception. Instead, their families hosted a modest gathering at his parents’ home, celebrating the special day with champagne punch.
As Ron and Cheryl mark this golden milestone, their story serves as an inspiration to couples everywhere. Their journey reflects the importance of love, respect, and commitment in sustaining a long-lasting relationship. In a world where relationships can often prove challenging, Ron and Cheryl’s enduring bond showcases that devotion can indeed pave the way for remarkable experiences.
As we look back on their 50 years together, their love story transcends entertainment. It underscores the beauty of partnership and the joys of growing together over the decades.
