As a precaution, roughly 9,000 individuals have evacuated Santorini since Sunday. In response to the escalating situation, emergency flights and ferry services are being increased to facilitate safe departures, according to reports from BBC.

Though some older buildings have sustained damage—seen in the form of cracks—there have been no reported injuries among the island’s approximately 15,500 residents.

Efthimios Lekkas, the head of the state-run Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization, provided insights into the nature of the earthquakes. He indicated that the epicenter of these seismic events is shifting northward, away from Santorini. Importantly, he noted that there is no ongoing activity related to the island’s dormant volcanoes.

“This situation could last for several days or extend into weeks. However, we do not possess the ability to predict how the sequence will develop over time,” Lekkas stated during an interview with state-run television.
