FIRST ON FOX: A Senate Republican aims to enhance federal regulations governing commercial driver’s licenses following a tragic accident in Florida that resulted in three fatalities.
Sen. Ashley Moody, a Republican from Florida, plans to introduce a new bill aimed at restricting the issuance of commercial driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants while heightening English language proficiency requirements for obtaining a commercial license.
“If you’re a commercial truck driver in America, being able to competently read the road signs in English isn’t optional… it’s the job,” Moody emphasized in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Agt Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant from India, allegedly caused the deaths of three individuals in a tractor-trailer accident after making an illegal U-turn on a Florida highway on August 12. The trailer he was driving jackknifed and crashed into a minivan, killing all three passengers. Singh possessed a commercial driver’s license from California and had previously been licensed in Washington State.
In the aftermath of the incident, he faces three counts of vehicular homicide and three counts of manslaughter.
While certain states permit migrants to obtain regular driver’s licenses regardless of their citizenship status, commercial driver’s licenses fall under federal jurisdiction. Federal law mandates that candidates must provide proof of citizenship or an Employment Authorization Document to qualify for a commercial license.
