Shedeur Sanders Set to Start for Cleveland Browns Against Raiders

Shedeur Sanders is poised to make his first start in the NFL as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in their upcoming matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

With Dillon Gabriel currently in concussion protocol following the Browns’ recent 23-16 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, the team’s plans have shifted. Reports indicate that unless there are unforeseen circumstances, Sanders will step in as the starter, according to Cleveland.com.

This opportunity marks a significant milestone for Sanders, making him the 42nd quarterback to start for the Browns since the year 1999.

Sanders, who previously shined at the University of Colorado, faced challenges in his NFL debut. He completed just four of 16 passes for a mere 47 yards, and unfortunately, he threw one interception while being sacked twice. Reflecting on his performance, Sanders expressed dissatisfaction with his play.

“I don’t think I played good,” he stated. “I really feel there are numerous aspects we need to assess throughout the week to improve and get comfortable. It’s important to work on throwing routes with Jerry (Jeudy) and the rest of the receivers.”

Despite the difficulties, Sanders recognizes areas for growth. He added, “That was my first attempt to connect with him this season. Our focus going forward should be to understand our strengths and prepare effectively for the games ahead.”

In their struggle against the Ravens, the Browns dropped to a disappointing record of 2-8. However, their defense demonstrated resilience, anchored by standout edge rusher Myles Garrett, who recorded an impressive four sacks. The defense also managed to intercept Lamar Jackson on two separate occasions, though these efforts were ultimately insufficient to secure a victory.

The Browns are optimistic that Sanders’ inclusion in the starting lineup will provide a much-needed boost to an offense that has struggled this season. As it stands, the team ranks 29th in the league, averaging only 16.2 points per game, and they sit at 31st in total yards, averaging 257.3 yards per game.

Looking ahead, the Browns will face the Raiders, who also sit at 2-8 on the season. This clash is scheduled for Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.
