This silence has drawn attention to the ongoing debate over immigration enforcement in the state.
U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino, who has connections to Watauga County and attended Appalachian State University, returned to North Carolina after spending several weeks in Chicago. His presence marked a pivotal moment as federal authorities carried out their operation in Charlotte.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, a total of 130 illegal immigrants were apprehended, including at least 44 individuals with violent criminal backgrounds. The operational focus drew further criticism from Representative Alma Adams, who represents a large portion of Mecklenburg County. Adams expressed her deep concern regarding the deployment of federal agents in Charlotte, labeling their actions as intimidation tactics aimed at her district’s immigrant communities.
