Sophie Turner recently opened up about an unexpected challenge she faced while filming her new horror movie, ‘The Dreadful’. The actress referred to the experience of kissing her co-star Kit Harington as ‘vile’ due to their history as siblings on ‘Game of Thrones.’
Turner and Harington portrayed the beloved characters Sansa Stark and Jon Snow respectively, captivating audiences from 2011 to 2019. Their on-screen chemistry developed into a close friendship off-screen, but that bond was put to the test when they reunited for this latest project.
During a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Turner shared the humorous difficulties that arose. She had recommended Harington for the lead role, and he responded with a candid acknowledgment of the potential awkwardness.
Turner explained that upon sending the script to Harington, she received a message expressing his concern. He was aware that their established sibling dynamic would complicate intimate scenes. As Turner recalled, he jokingly declared, ‘Yeah, I’d love to, but this is going to be really f—— weird, Soph.’
Initially confused, Turner later understood his hesitation when she read through the script. It contained numerous intimate scenes, including kissing and sex, which led her to exclaim, ‘Oh, shoot, that’s my brother.’
Despite the initial shock, both actors decided they had to proceed with shooting the scenes. Turner remarked, ‘We put it out of our minds, and then we get on set, and it’s the first kissing scene, and we are both retching.’ She described the moment as truly uncomfortable, emphasizing, ‘Like, really, it is vile. It was the worst.’
Sophie Turner began her journey in the entertainment industry at an incredibly young age. Starting at just 12 years old, she was catapulted into the spotlight with the role of Sansa Stark. By the time Game of Thrones concluded, she had transitioned from a young girl to a young adult, navigating the ups and downs of fame.
Reflecting on her experiences, Turner described her time on the show as the best acting class she could have asked for. The support and talent of her colleagues, including Harington, Emilia Clarke, and Peter Dinklage, provided invaluable insights that shaped her skills.
Turner expressed gratitude for the opportunities presented during her time on the HBO series. She noted, ‘I never had proper formal training, so I got to learn from the amazing actors around me.’ Her comments illustrated her sense of pride as she considers herself to have won a competition by working alongside such talented individuals.
Moreover, she fondly shared how her character developed throughout the series, mentioning, ‘My character, I got to live with, so it felt like we kind of merged into one person by the end of it.’
As Sophie Turner continues to challenge herself with diverse roles, she remains committed to her craft. ‘The Dreadful’ stands as a testament to her evolution as an actress, showcasing her ability to navigate complex emotions and situations, even ones that push her out of her comfort zone.
With her rich experience from Game of Thrones and the insight gained from working in such a high-pressure environment, Turner is well-positioned to break new ground in her acting career. The anticipation surrounding ‘The Dreadful’ not only highlights her talent but also captivates audiences eager to see their favorite stars in new lights.
The intertwining of personal and professional relationships adds an intriguing layer to her upcoming work, much to the delight of fans intrigued by this transition. Ultimately, Sophie Turner’s journey reminds us of the dedication and courage required in the entertainment industry.
