A spring break adventure turned dangerous for a Tennessee woman after a dolphin encounter led to a severe injury. Cierra Stockard was on vacation in Jamaica with friends when a freak accident hospitalized her on March 16.
The 29-year-old mother decided to try the popular “Dolphin Royal Swim” at Dolphin Cove, a well-known attraction that offers visitors a unique interaction with dolphins. After the accident, Stockard felt as though she had been hit by a vehicle. She said, “It felt like I was in a car accident because it hit me super hard. I started panicking. In a surprising turn, Stockard noted that the dolphins seemed to respond to her distress. “They came and rubbed against me, and stopped their bodies from swimming to be right beside me,” she shared, highlighting the unique bond between humans and dolphins.

Stockard was quickly transported to a hospital in Montego Bay, where doctors diagnosed her with a significant hematoma approximately the size of a grapefruit. Due to her medical condition—sickle cell anemia, which affects her blood’s hemoglobin—she needed emergency surgery to address her injuries.
Following her treatment, Stockard returned to Tennessee on March 24, eight days after the incident, and sought follow-up care at a local hospital. “Luckily, I’m in stable condition and I’m not all the way on my deathbed,” she reassured her audience.
