Stephen Curry delivered a jaw-dropping performance on Tuesday night, leading the Golden State Warriors to a hard-fought 134-125 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies. The star guard came within striking distance of breaking the all-time 3-point record while dominating the game.
Curry’s outstanding performance included 52 points, along with 12 made 3-pointers, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and five steals. This exceptional display put him only three 3-pointers shy of tying the record held by former teammate Klay Thompson, and just one away from equaling his personal best.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr expressed his admiration for Curry’s capabilities. He noted, “Fifty-two points with people draped all over him, all game long. I’ve been watching this for 11 years, and actually longer before I became his coach. You get a real sense of just the magnitude of his talent.” Kerr acknowledged the significance of Curry’s skills, stating, “The guy is amazing to watch.”
In the teams’ previous encounter, Curry struggled and failed to score a single field goal, resulting in a 51-point defeat for the Warriors. This time, however, he focused more on the playoff implications of the game than on the losses of the past.
The victory propelled the Warriors to fifth place in the Western Conference with a record of 44 wins and 31 losses. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies dropped to 44-32, making the contest even more pivotal for playoff standings. Golden State now finds itself a half-game ahead of the Minnesota Timberwolves and a full game above the Los Angeles Clippers.
In addition to his scoring feat in this game, Curry made history by surpassing Jerry West on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, now sitting at 25th place. Reflecting on this milestone, he shared, “I got a little emotional about that. It was special. In his memory. What he meant to our organization, the league, to the world of basketball. That’s the logo.”
The Warriors will continue their campaign with an upcoming game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. The Grizzlies, on the other hand, are set to face the Miami Heat in their next matchup.
This thrilling victory not only showcased Curry’s talent but also illustrated the importance of the win for the Warriors’ playoff positioning. As the season progresses, fans eagerly anticipate further displays of excellence from Curry and the Warriors.
