Based on their analysis, the report indicates that the number of terrorist incidents attributed to left-wing extremists this year places 2025 on track to be the deadliest year for this faction in over three decades.
For the first time in 30 years, the number of left-wing attacks and plots has surpassed those from the far right. This comprehensive study tracks 750 terrorist incidents in the U.S. spanning from 1994 to July 2025.
Defining Political Violence
The report provides a clear definition of terrorism, detailing it as violence or threats perpetrated by non-state actors aimed at achieving political objectives while instilling fear. Analysts connecting these leftist attacks to a rise in hostility note they are predominantly concentrated on government institutions and conservative leaders.
