The wall development will occur in Santa Cruz County, which primarily comprises rural areas including Nogales. According to CBP, the funds for this initiative were allocated in the agency’s 2021 budget. Many contracts for wall construction were put on hold during Biden’s presidency, leaving materials abandoned at the border, notably within the Tucson Sector.

Federal Initiatives to Accelerate Construction

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has implemented several measures to expedite construction in Arizona, California, and Texas. These efforts primarily involve granting environmental waivers that help to eliminate administrative delays.
