FIRST ON FOX: Recent reports have shed light on serious allegations against Kilmar Abrego-Garcia, who was deported to El Salvador and is suspected of involvement in labor and human trafficking. This information comes from a 2022 report by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) obtained by Fox News. The document indicates that law enforcement investigations have connected Abrego-Garcia to the infamous gang Mara Salvatrucha, commonly known as MS-13, which has been classified as a terrorist organization by former President Donald Trump.
The troubling developments began on December 1, 2022, when a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper pulled over Abrego-Garcia for speeding and erratic driving. During the stop, the officer discovered eight individuals traveling with him in a vehicle. Abrego-Garcia claimed that he had begun his journey three days earlier from Houston, Texas, to Temple Hills, Maryland, allegedly for construction work. However, the trooper suspected there was more to the story, especially since the car contained no luggage. Additionally, the passengers provided the same address as that of Abrego-Garcia, raising further suspicions of a human trafficking situation.
During the interaction, Abrego-Garcia reportedly minimized his English-speaking abilities and attempted to divert the officer’s questions. Ultimately, the officer decided not to issue a citation for driving violations, instead opting to give Abrego-Garcia a warning for operating with an expired license.
Further scrutiny from the HSI report indicated that, back in October 2019, Abrego-Garcia had already been identified as a MS-13 gang member by the Prince George’s County Police Gang Unit. This connection has intensified the seriousness of the current allegations.
Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, Tricia McLaughlin, commented on the situation, stating, “Abrego-Garcia is a MS-13 gang member, an illegal alien from El Salvador, and a suspected human trafficker. The details are alarming, as he was traveling with eight individuals without any luggage after claiming a three-day trip from Texas to Maryland. The evidence clearly points to human trafficking. There has been too much media sympathy for criminals and not enough focus on their victims.”
In addition to his suspected criminal activities, Abrego-Garcia has a history of domestic violence. Court records from Prince George’s County reveal that his wife, Jennifer Vasquez, filed claims against him for being a violent repeat offender. In a handwritten affidavit submitted in 2021, Vasquez detailed instances of abuse, stating, “At this point, I am afraid to be close to him. I have multiple photos and videos showing how violent he can be and the bruises he has left me.”
Following his deportation, Democrats have expressed outrage, labeling him as a wrongfully deported “Maryland man.” Currently, Abrego-Garcia is being held in El Salvador’s infamous megaprison, known as the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT).
Senator Chris Van Hollen from Maryland took a bold step by traveling to El Salvador to meet with Abrego-Garcia. This visit drew criticism from Trump, who mocked Van Hollen as a “fool” for supporting someone with such a controversial history. Other Democrat lawmakers have also considered visiting Abrego-Garcia following the announcement of Van Hollen’s trip.
The White House has not missed the opportunity to comment on the outcry surrounding Van Hollen’s visit. In a recent tweet, the White House juxtaposed images of Trump meeting with the mother of Rachel Morin, a Maryland resident murdered by an illegal immigrant in 2023, against a photo of Van Hollen with Abrego-Garcia, captioning it with, “We are not the same.”
Rachel Morin’s tragic story has touched many, especially her mother, Patty, who pointed out that Van Hollen has not reached out to her since her daughter’s murder. This has led to further criticism against the senator for his priorities.
