Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White has become the victim of an alleged extortion scheme, according to statements made by his legal representatives on Tuesday.
Attorneys Michelle Gervais and TJ Grimaldi confirmed that the FBI and other relevant authorities are currently investigating the situation.
In a statement, the lawyers emphasized their commitment to protecting White and his family. They stated that illegal and defamatory threats will face “zero tolerance.” The attorneys further asserted, “We will continue to exercise all legal avenues to protect Rachaad’s rights as a victim of extortion.”
The Buccaneers organization did not provide an immediate response to requests for comment regarding this matter.
Rachaad White commenced the season as the starting running back for the Buccaneers. However, his role diminished as rookie Bucky Irving increasingly took the helm. Initially, White rushed for an impressive 990 yards on 272 carries. These numbers, however, declined significantly as he ended the season with only 613 yards after 144 attempts.
Following his impressive debut, adjustments were made in the Buccaneers’ lineup, allowing Irving to step into the leading role. Irving, also a third-round pick, notched an impressive 1,122 rushing yards and secured eight touchdowns on 207 attempts.
The Buccaneers clinched the NFC South title but faced a setback in the divisional round, losing 23-20 to the Washington Commanders. In that critical game, White had minimal impact, recording just three touches.
As discussions about the team’s future unfold, speculation has arisen that White may find himself as a salary-cap casualty. The emergence of Sean Tucker in the backfield later in the season adds to the uncertainty surrounding White’s place on the team.
The revelation of White’s alleged extortion case underscores serious legal implications for all involved. Extortion — a crime that involves coercing someone into paying or giving up something of value through threats or force — can have severe consequences for perpetrators.
With the FBI now involved, authorities will likely pursue all necessary action to uncover the truth behind this situation. The involvement of federal agencies often underscores the seriousness and complexity of extortion cases.
