Ted Cruz Backs Chip Roy for Texas Attorney General Position

Senator Ted Cruz, representing Texas, publicly endorsed Representative Chip Roy on Saturday following Roy’s announcement to run for attorney general in Texas. Cruz’s endorsement came just two days after Roy declared his candidacy for this crucial statewide office.

Chip Roy aims to succeed the current attorney general, Ken Paxton, who will not seek re-election in 2026. Instead, Paxton is focusing his efforts on a U.S. Senate bid against fellow Senator John Cornyn.

In a statement, Cruz highlighted the impressive roster of candidates vying for the attorney general role. Among those running in the Republican primary are state Senators Joan Huffman and Mayes Middleton, along with Aaron Reitz, a former Assistant Attorney General.

“There are several excellent candidates currently in the race for Texas Attorney General. All of them have been strong supporters of mine for many years. Texas is fortunate to have such a wealth of strong conservatives stepping up to lead during this critical time,” stated Cruz.

Cruz has a long history with Roy, having served as his first chief of staff. Their bond extends over more than a decade, with Cruz noting that they have fought together in numerous battles aimed at promoting conservative values.

“We have been through many battles together, and I know Chip will always champion conservative principles,” Cruz affirmed.

He acknowledged Roy’s more than twenty years of dedicated service to Texas, emphasizing his courage, integrity, and commitment to protecting the state. Cruz stated, “Chip is a battle-tested warrior and a fervent defender of the Constitution. I am confident he will uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of Texans. No one is better suited to lead the Texas Attorney General’s office, and I trust he will vigorously defend our state.”

In a campaign video shared on social media platform X, Roy expressed his determination to maintain Texas’ values of liberty and self-determination. He stated, “Texas has a longstanding tradition of defending our homes, freedom, and communities. I am running for Attorney General to champion that legacy, unafraid to take on challenges and protect Texas at every opportunity.”

Roy is proud of his tenure representing the 21st Congressional District, citing significant achievements in supporting former President Trump’s agenda and working to “drain the swamp” in Washington.

Reflecting on his experience, Roy remarked, “I could continue this work indefinitely and feel fulfilled. However, I believe representatives should not remain in office permanently. Witnessing the unity of Texans during the Hill Country floods strengthened my resolve to return home and serve.”

He emphasized his desire to leverage his experiences as a Congressman, federal prosecutor, and previous First Assistant Attorney General to advocate for Texas directly. Roy insisted that Texas is facing significant threats, citing “open-border politicians, radical leftists, and faceless foreign corporations that challenge our sovereignty and safety.”

“It is essential to draw a decisive line in the sand. As Attorney General, I will fight every day for our God-given rights, our families, and the future of Texas,” he asserted.

Since taking office in the U.S. House in 2019, Roy has focused on conservative initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare of Texas and its residents.
