Teddy Bridgewater is poised for another chapter in his NFL career as he prepares to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a move confirmed by general manager Jason Licht.
At 32 years old, Bridgewater is coming out of retirement for the second time, rejoining the league alongside quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask. Licht informed reporters on Tuesday that Bridgewater visited Tampa, and while a contract has yet to be formalized, he expressed a strong intention to sign the quarterback.

Experienced guy, obviously a smart, hell of high school coach – hell of a coach in general. Just a good addition just to have that wealth of experience there.”
While Licht did not confirm whether Bridgewater would immediately become the backup to Trask, he acknowledged that competition for the role remains open.
Bridgewater’s NFL Journey
Bridgewater has a storied career spanning 10 NFL seasons. He first entered the league as a first-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2014 NFL Draft. In 2023, Bridgewater announced his retirement, which he made official in early 2024. Following this, he pursued a coaching position at his former high school in Miami, where he achieved notable success by leading the team to a Class 3A state championship last season.

In December, Bridgewater decided to come out of retirement and joined the Detroit Lions in a bid to assist in their playoff campaign.
