DJ Daniel, a remarkable teenage boy who gained national recognition after being named a Secret Service agent during President Donald Trump’s congressional address in March, has achieved another milestone in his journey. On Sunday, Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum officially swore him in as an honorary United States Park Police officer, demonstrating the impact of his inspiring story.
Daniel, a courageous cancer survivor, aims to be sworn into 1,000 law enforcement agencies. During the ceremony, Secretary Burgum praised his resilience and determination. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet Daniel and his family, stating on social media, “DJ’s resilience in his battle against cancer has inspired the nation. It was an honor to meet with him and his family today at @Interior!”
Following the swearing-in ceremony, Daniel took part in a patrol of the National Mall, which allowed him to showcase his dedication to service. The United States Park Police commended his performance, stating that he demonstrated the highest degree of honor, integrity, and service during his duties.
DJ Daniel first captured public attention when President Trump acknowledged him during a joint address to Congress on March 4. The president conferred upon him the honorary title of Secret Service agent, which was a significant moment in Daniel’s journey. Just weeks later, on March 19, he visited the Secret Service Training Center, where he celebrated with the latest graduating class. During this visit, he met with influential figures, including Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Secret Service Director Sean Curran, further solidifying his role in the law enforcement community.
Diagnosed with brain and spinal cancer in 2018, Daniel was given just five months to live. His father, Theodis, reported that since his diagnosis, Daniel has undergone over 13 brain surgeries and actively participates in a research study aimed at combating his illness. Theodis proudly shared that Daniel is continuously “beating the odds,” defying expectations and showcasing remarkable strength and spirit.
During his recent visit to the Secret Service Training Center, Daniel shared an encouraging message for other children battling cancer. He urged them to “have faith, believe in God, and listen to your parents,” offering hope and positivity to those facing similar challenges.
The Daniel family remains dedicated to their mission and aims to visit even more law enforcement agencies nationwide. As of late March, DJ Daniel had been sworn in by 914 different agencies, making significant strides toward his ambitious target of 1,000. While he has not yet fully reached this goal, he has still made remarkable progress, setting records for collecting the most keys to the city and establishing numerous
