Terrifying Crash Shakes IndyCar NXT Race at Mid-Ohio

An IndyCar NXT race on Sunday at Mid-Ohio turned chaotic after a serious crash involving drivers Ricardo Escotto and Sebastian Murray.

On Lap 4, as they approached Turn 4, Escotto’s right front wheel made contact with Murray’s left rear wheel. The collision caused Murray to lose control, spinning in front of Escotto and crashing into the wall at a high speed. In a shocking turn of events, Murray’s car flipped upside down before it finally came to a halt.

Officials quickly waved a red flag to halt the race while safety crews rushed to the scene. Fortunately, both drivers were cleared without serious injuries after being examined at the infield care center.

In a post-race interview, Murray expressed his relief. He said it was unfortunate to experience the crash, noting he was unsure how the incident unfolded. “I’m just glad that everyone’s OK. Obviously, apologies to the team. It’s been a good weekend so far, and we were hoping to make our way up but things happen. We’ll move forward,” he stated.

Escotto, however, expressed frustration with the incident, which he described as a “very scary one.” He felt anger about the circumstances, stating, “Just frustrated and very angry. It took me a lot to be contained and try to calm me down. It was a very unfortunate incident, especially having my teammate beside me. It’s bad we were in this situation because, at the end of the day, we shouldn’t be racing like that. We were on the straight and he moved and obviously made contact like that.

“Our racing is very close, very close margins, and if you make a mistake like that, it just comes to this,” Escotto added.

Despite the crash overshadowing the event, Dennis Hauger went on to win the race, marking his fifth victory of the season.

Currently, in the IndyCar NXT standings, Murray is ranked 10th while Escotto sits in 13th place. IndyCar NXT serves as the developmental series for aspiring drivers aiming for a future in IndyCar racing.
