A man has been arrested for tampering with evidence related to a violent ambush on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Texas. He allegedly attempted to hide documents that expressed anti-government and anti-Trump sentiments.
Daniel Rolando Sanchez Estrada, a green card holder from Mexico and former DACA recipient, became a subject of interest following a jailhouse phone conversation made by one of the alleged attackers. This incident occurred during the Fourth of July celebrations when a group of 10 to 12 individuals vandalized vehicles and discharged fireworks at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas. Reports indicate that the assailants fired between 20 and 30 rounds at law enforcement officials stationed outside.
Upon his arrest, Sanchez was found in possession of what authorities described as insurrectionist propaganda, specifically a document titled ‘Organizing for Attack! Insurrectionary Anarchy.’ This material is concerning, as officials note that insurrectionary anarchism represents a serious domestic terrorist threat.
ICE revealed in a post on X that Sanchez had been granted legal status through the DACA program and subsequently secured a green card under the Biden administration in 2024.
Marciela Rueda is among seven alleged attackers captured by law enforcement. Witnesses reported seeing Rueda and others dressed in military-style clothing and body armor, attempting to escape on foot. Court documents indicate that Rueda made two phone calls from the Johnson County Jail on July 6. In one of these calls, she instructed her mother in Spanish to contact Sanchez. In another, she directly told Sanchez to tow her vehicle from a Dallas location identified as a staging area for their actions prior to the ambush.
The vehicle belonged to Rueda’s residence in Fort Worth. During the conversation, she indicated to Sanchez to take any necessary actions regarding her belongings at home. Sanchez claimed he had already visited the Fort Worth residence, leading investigators to believe he thought it had not been searched by police yet.
According to FBI agents, Sanchez divides his time between living with his parents in Dallas and with Rueda in Fort Worth. Sources from ICE have previously reported that Sanchez is married to one of the individuals implicated in the attack.
Following the ambush, an FBI surveillance team monitored an address linked to Sanchez and his family in Garland, an area in the Dallas region. Observations indicated that Sanchez was seen carrying multiple packages to his pickup truck, after which he stopped for gas before proceeding to an apartment complex in Denton. There, he unloaded a box, which later became significant during the investigation.
When federal law enforcement executed a search warrant at the Denton apartment, they discovered the same box Sanchez had been observed carrying. Inside, they found documents outlining training and planning for civil unrest, including materials infused with anti-government and anti-law enforcement rhetoric.
Sanchez was apprehended during a traffic stop, where he faces accusations of knowingly altering, destroying, or concealing evidence with the intent to obstruct legal proceedings. He is charged with conspiracy to tamper with evidence, a felony offense.
In a broader crackdown, federal prosecutors unveiled charges against Rueda and nine other individuals, including attempted murder of a federal officer. All accused parties are U.S. citizens, according to authorities. The list includes names such as Cameron Arnold, commonly known as Autumn Hill, and Savannah Batten.
A twelfth individual, Benjamin Hanil Song, has been charged and is currently on the run. The FBI has placed a $25,000 reward for information leading to his capture. Song, a former U.S. Marine Corps reservist, allegedly purchased four firearms connected to the July 4 attack, including an AR-15-style rifle.
Details from court documents reveal that Song’s firearms were discovered in a van driven by one of the attackers. Additionally, during a traffic stop involving Morris, law enforcement found not only firearms but also tactical gear and a loaded magazine that corresponded to the weapons involved in the ambush.
Amid the chaos of the ambush, an officer from Alvarado police was injured after being shot in the neck. Fortunately, the officer is expected to survive. The broader implications of this attack on the ICE facility raise questions surrounding domestic terrorism and the motivations driving individuals to commit such violent acts.
The incident highlights the escalating tensions surrounding immigration enforcement and the potential for violence among those who oppose government institutions. As law enforcement continues to investigate, the community is left grappling with the significance of these attacks.
