A Texas man accused of multiple sexual offenses against a child will circumvent prosecution on nine felony counts following a plea agreement with a prosecutor linked to George Soros, as reported by local media.
According to Austin’s ABC affiliate KVUE, Richard Leigh Bell, age 37, faced serious charges that included continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, six counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, and two counts of indecency with a child. Under the terms of the plea deal, these charges have been dropped. Bell has instead entered a guilty plea for one count relating to injury to a child, categorized as a third-degree felony.
This agreement entails a five-year term of deferred probation for Bell, who is also required to register as a sex offender. Additionally, he is prohibited from any form of contact with the victim, her family, or any minors during this period, as KVUE reported. Notably, the plea agreement included no jail time, leading to widespread dissatisfaction.
Following the courtroom proceedings on Monday, the father of the victim voiced his anger to KVUE, expressing that he felt blindsided by the decision. He criticized prosecutors Efrain De La Fuente and Lorraine Garcia for excluding him from discussions regarding the plea agreement.
“I was outraged to find out that this was not only our first and last plea deal, but this was our deal whether I liked it or not,” he stated. This father, who has remained unnamed to protect the victim’s identity, indicated that he had expected a substantial prison sentence for Bell.
“I think any parent would expect someone to rot in jail for committing such acts,” he remarked. With time, he anticipated a realistic plea agreement that would result in at least several years of imprisonment, believing it was a fitting consequence for the acts of pedophilia Bell committed.
In Texas, the process of deferred adjudication allows defendants to evade a conviction if they adhere to probation terms satisfactorily. However, failure to comply can lead to sentencing on the original charge. As such, Bell’s probation stipulations—including mandatory registration as a sex offender and strict no-contact requirements—will be enforced for the entire five-year duration.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the office of Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza for comments regarding this plea deal but has not yet received a reply. This situation has reignited debates about the effectiveness of the criminal justice system and its ability to protect victims.
District Attorney Garza, who entered office in 2021 with financial backing from progressive billionaire Soros, has promised a transformative approach to criminal justice. He aims to address systemic issues, provide support for survivors, and advocate for alternatives to incarceration for nonviolent offenses. Consequently, he has faced criticism for policies perceived to undermine public safety.
Critically, some argue that Garza’s office has not sufficiently championed victim rights while promoting legislation that purportedly compromises safety in the community. His administration’s handling of various cases, including those involving police officers, has drawn scrutiny amid tensions following the city council’s decision in 2020 to cut police funding.
This plea deal has spurred backlash within the local community. Families impacted by similar crimes have aired their grievances, demanding accountability from the legal system. Many believe that the lack of prison time for Bell signifies a broader trend of leniency towards offenders of serious sexual crimes.
The criticism intensified further when Garza attended the funeral of a fallen police officer in 2023, an act described by some as a
