Representative Jasmine Crockett from Texas has expressed her intent to strongly consider a candidacy for the United States Senate. In an interview with SiriusXM’s “The Lurie Daniel Favors Show,” she highlighted recent polling data indicating she would likely be a leading candidate in the Texas Democratic primary.
When asked about her plans regarding the new district boundaries drawn by the Texas legislature, Crockett admitted uncertainty. She stated that her team awaits a final court ruling on whether these new district lines will take effect. If the lines change, Crockett explained that she could be placed in a different district.
“The alternative is the series of polls coming out that suggest I could win the primary for the U.S. Senate race in Texas. I am exploring this option because it feels like karma might dictate that if you take away my seat that represents 766,000 people, I should pursue your seat which is meant for 30 million,” Crockett stated.
She added, “The primary is crucial, but winning the general election is what we need to focus on. We are conducting some tests soon to evaluate how to expand our electorate effectively.”
Crockett expressed skepticism regarding traditional polling methods. She believes these tools fail to capture the opinions of voters who normally do not participate in elections. Citing historical examples, she noted how both former President Barack Obama and current President Donald Trump successfully engaged nontraditional voters, suggesting that pollsters often overlook those who may be motivated to vote for the first time.
“The key to winning in Texas isn’t to rely solely on the existing electorate; it’s about expanding it,” Crockett emphasized. She is currently analyzing polling data to pinpoint demographics that could be incentivized to participate in the upcoming election. If she determines that there is potential to broaden the electorate significantly, she would strongly contemplate entering the Senate race.
In August, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a new congressional map into law, which is projected to secure five additional Republican-leaning U.S. House districts ahead of the highly competitive midterm elections in 2026. This decision was fueled by the Republican-controlled Texas House and Senate, which quickly passed the map following a chaotic period where numerous Lone Star State Democrats fled to avoid a redistricting vote.
This latest redistricting move, which has drawn significant scrutiny, impacts not only Crockett but many others in the Texas delegation. Democratic representatives are gearing up for challenges as they work to navigate potential shifts in voter demographics and district lines.
Crockett’s recent comments have sparked controversy, particularly regarding her views on political discourse. Last month, during an appearance on CNN’s “The Arena,” she suggested that critics who claim comparisons of current events to Hitler and fascism incite political violence were incorrect. In her dialogue with host Kasie Hunt, she elaborated on this topic, contradicting the notion that such rhetoric contributes to societal division.
She stated, “They’re absolutely wrong. The issue lies in how historical instances are presented to the public. We see a constant assault on our personal freedoms by authoritarian figures who dictate what citizens should accept, regardless of righteousness. Right now, those freedoms continue to face threats.”
Crockett also faced backlash for previous remarks that appeared to mock Governor Abbott, who suffers from paralysis and uses a wheelchair. At a Human Rights Campaign event in March, she referred to him as “Governor Hot Wheels,” declaring, “The only thing hot about him is his political strategies which are a disaster.”
This comment resurfaced amid a wave of criticism for her other recent statements, including a call for Elon Musk to be “taken down” and remarks directed at Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, suggesting he deserved physical reprimand.
Crockett’s comments and political posture reflect a broader trend among Democratic representatives as they strive to galvanize support amid a changing political landscape. With the uncertainty surrounding her district and the implications of the new congressional map, Crockett’s potential Senate run signals a strategic shift in her political career.
The intersection of redistricting and a potential Senate bid positions Crockett at a critical juncture in Texas politics. As she weighs her options, her focus on expanding the electorate could prepare the ground for significant shifts during the upcoming elections.
As the political climate continues to evolve, all eyes will remain on representatives like Jasmine Crockett. With the 2024 elections approaching, her decisions may not only affect her political future but also the landscape of Texas politics as a whole.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Crockett’s team for further comments on her potential Senate candidacy and her views on recent political developments.
