In the midst of a chaotic news week, including a significant summit with Russia and the Trump administration’s overhaul of the Washington, D.C., police force, another substantial allegation concerning Russiagate surfaced. This critical update may have gone unnoticed amidst the storm.
As 2016 drew to a close, just before Donald Trump took office, Mike Rogers, then Director of the National Security Agency, raised serious concerns over a report detailing supposed ties between Trump and Russia. This email sent to James Clapper, the then Director of National Intelligence, suggested unease among intelligence officials.
Rogers expressed skepticism about the report’s accuracy. He stated that his team had not had sufficient time to evaluate all the intelligence needed to uphold their assessments. This situation underscored the urgency with which the report was being pushed to the outgoing President Obama at that time.
Clapper’s response was illuminating. He acknowledged Rogers’ concerns, emphasizing the need for the CIA, NSA, FBI, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to present a united front. He articulated that projecting a cohesive stance was crucial, stating that this was their narrative, and they intended to maintain it.
If the contents of this email hold true and remain uncontested, it serves not merely as a hint of wrongdoing but rather as a clear indication of potential malfeasance.
Clapper further indicated that the need for mutual transparency would not allow for an extension of review time. He claimed some normal procedural steps might need to be compromised due to the rushed timeline. This language raises alarm bells, suggesting a possible soft coup rather than a deliberate investigation.
Emails like these reveal a troubling conspiracy among Obama-era officials, especially during the 2016 campaign. For instance, one email from a vice president of the George Soros-funded Open Society Foundation elaborated a strategy involving Trump and Russian hackers, aimed at diverting attention from Hillary Clinton’s email scandal during the Democratic National Convention.
This plan laid out a clear objective. As the clock wound down to the election, the campaign against Trump intensified. The narrative aimed to frame Trump as a Russian asset, significantly undermining his presidency.
The strategy, unfortunately for Trump, found traction and was successful in damaging his administration’s early credibility. What transpired unfolds in history, with implications still being felt today.
It becomes essential to note that Clapper, along with CIA Director John Brennan, and FBI Director James Comey, all recognized the boundaries of legality. They saw the stop sign but chose to accelerate instead. Their decisions appear increasingly suspect in light of these revelations.
Many of Trump’s supporters are calling for immediate legal repercussions against those involved. While it does seem evident that laws may have been breached, legal processes require patience. True justice often needs to unfold gradually.
More urgent than arrests, however, is a recognition within our media and government of the conspiracy’s existence. The coordinated efforts to undermine Trump did significant harm, fracturing national unity unjustifiably.
Reflecting on the past, one has to consider the value of the accolades these journalists received. Were the Pulitzer Prizes worth it if they result in a tarnished legacy, akin to a distorted version of Dorian Gray, exhibiting increasing moral decay while the reporters’ careers flourish?
There are no longer any plausible innocent explanations for the actions undertaken by those in power. This situation was not a case of well-intentioned officials mistakenly acting on flawed information. Instead, it involved deceit at multiple levels, both in government and media.
The scale of the deception surrounding the Russiagate controversy is staggering. Democrats who sought to undermine the electoral process through unfounded accusations have left a lasting impression on the political landscape. Unfortunately, many media outlets, which may have been complicit in fostering the narrative, have yet to confront this reality.
The current Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, must now confront this political aftermath. Unlike her predecessors, she needs to illuminate the apparent attempt to oust a duly elected president with a focus on restoring integrity to our institutions.
Ultimately, it is not sufficient for the efforts against President Trump to have failed. It is imperative that mechanisms are put in place to prevent such conspiracies from occurring again in the future.
